BOXING CANADA: Canadian Elite Boxing Team Set to Compete at World Boxing Cup in China

June 10, 2026

Press release courtesy of Boxing Canada – The Canadian elite boxing team is set to compete at the World Boxing Cup in Guiyang City, China, from June 13 to June 20, 2026. The event will bring together many of the world’s top boxers and serves as another important stop on the international boxing calendar as athletes continue their preparations for future major championships.

Prior to competition, the Canadian team will participate in an international training camp from June 3 to June 12, providing valuable opportunities to train and spar with athletes from around the world ahead of the tournament.

Canadian Team Selection

Canada will be represented by a talented team of six athletes competing across both men’s and women’s divisions.

The Canadian delegation includes:

Women
60 kg – Marie Al Ahmadieh (The Corner, QC)
75 kg – Tammara Thibeault (Steel City gym, Royaume-Uni)

Men
55 kg – Max Tomines (Tomines Boxing, ON)
60 kg – Keoma Al-Ahmadieh (The Corner, QC)
65 kg – Gabriel Aly Labrie (The Corner, QC)
80 kg – Joshua Ofori (Marshall Boxing, AB)

The team will be led by national team coaches Ariane Fortin and Vincent Auclair, who bring extensive international coaching experience to the event.

Returning to International Competition

The team arrived in China in early June following a strong showing earlier this season at the World Boxing Cup in Foz de Iguaçu, Brazil, where several members of this team gained valuable experience against elite international opposition.

The upcoming competition in Guiyang presents another opportunity for Canada’s boxers to build on the lessons learned in Brazil and continue their progression against some of the best athletes in the world.

Coach Ariane Fortin believes the training camp and previous international competitions have positioned the team well heading into the event.

“This group continues to gain valuable experience every time they step into international competition. The athletes have been committed to their development and have shown tremendous professionalism throughout the season. The training camp in China will allow us to fine-tune our preparations, and we’re looking forward to seeing the team perform against a strong international field.”

Veteran Leadership and Emerging Talent

The Canadian delegation brings together a combination of experienced international competitors and rising talents who continue to establish themselves on the world stage.

Leading the women’s team is Marie Al Ahmadieh who continues to build momentum within the national program, gaining valuable international experience against world-class opposition. Marie’s recent success at Boxam and the Brazil World Cup put her in a strong position to go deep in the China tournament.

Tammara Thibeault returns to international competition with the Canadian national team after representing Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Since Paris, Thibeault has remained active on the professional circuit, continuing to develop her skills and gain valuable experience. Her return to the national team adds significant leadership and international experience to the group as she steps back into Olympic-style competition.

On the men’s side, Max Tomines, Keoma Al Ahmadieh, Gabriel Aly Labrie, and Joshua Ofori return to international action looking to build upon their performances from earlier competitions in Spain and Brazil this season. Each has already been on the podium this season and look to test their technical and tactical skills against the world’s best.
