Become a Coach
The two-day Instruction Beginners course is designed to provide an in-depth introduction into the fundamentals of coaching boxing.
Complete the Safe Sport, Respect in Sport, and Making Head Way in Sport modules and submit a background check.
Register as a member coach with Boxing Ontario with an affiliated club.
Evaluations are conducted by Boxing Canada.
Coaching Pathway
Instruction Beginner Coach
Works with athletes:
LTAD Stages: Active Child, Fundamentals, Learn to Box, Active for Life
Age Groups: 6-12 years old; individuals 13+ years learning to box for the first time
Goals: Fun, skill development, fitness, participation not competition
Competition Introduction Coach
Work with athletes:
LTAD Stages: Learn to Box, Train to Box, Train to Compete, Active for Life
Age Groups: 8+
Goals: Skill refinement, fitness, sparring, participation in some competition
Competition Development Coach
Works with athletes:
LTAD Stages: Train to Compete, Train to perform
Age Groups: 15+
Goals: Skill refinement, fitness, sparring, interprovincial and national competition
Boxing Ontario delivers the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) for coaches in the province of Ontario. This program was developed by Boxing Canada in conjunction with the Coaching Association of Canada to improve the standard of coaching through education.
Becoming Instruction Beginner Certified
- Create an NCCP Number. Keep this number on file, as it will give you access to all the courses you take on the Coaching Association of Canada’s website called The Locker.
- Take an Instruction Beginner coaching course through Boxing Ontario. (View our event calendar below.)
- Complete additional learning modules: Safe Sport, Respect In Sport, Making Head Way in Sport.
- Complete a police background check and submit to Boxing Ontario.
- Register as a coach with Boxing Ontario.
- When the above steps are complete, you will be “Instruction Beginner In-Training”.
- Competition Introduction NCCP Training (delivered by the Coaches Association of Ontario), which includes the Make Ethical Decisions (MED), Planning A Practice, Nutrition, and Emergency Action Plan modules.
- When the above steps are complete, you will be “Instruction Beginner Trained”.
- Complete the MED Evaluation and Instruction Beginner Evaluation delivered by Boxing Canada to become “Instruction Beginner Certified”.
