Committees
Boxing may be an individual sport, but in order to excel, a strong team component is essential. Our member-driven committees help build a stronger, more cohesive organization.

Building excellence, cultivating champions
The Coaching & High-Performance Committee focuses on podium success for Ontario athletes and the development of Ontario coaches. Goals and objectives of the Committee are in accordance with the current long-term athlete development (LTAD) and Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) methods supported by sport science. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Planning Team Ontario training camps, developing training programs and testing protocols for athletes, and creating/monitoring a list of high-performance athletes for development.
- Supporting all athlete-based programs, including athlete selection for advancing tournaments and competitions.
- Advising the Board of Directors on any athlete-based decisions not already covered by another Boxing Ontario policy.
- Development of coaching seminars or training sessions.
- Selection of coaches/mentors for national, international, and high-performance events.
- Encourage participation and share opportunities among Boxing Ontario coaches and serve the development of others.
This committee consists of five members: the Committee Chair (appointed) and four other coaches as selected by the Board of Directors (minimum of one female coach).
Creating opportunities for female athletes
The Female Development Committee (FDC) fosters the growth of female athletes (both individually and organizationally) by providing continuous development opportunities through various methods, including sparring, training camps, competitions, outreach to other provinces, and special events. The FDC also designs initiatives to recruit female athletes of all ages, implements additional development programs as they arise, and supports the High-Performance Committee when needed.
The FDC is composed of five members: a Chair appointed by the Board and four members elected by the Board of Directors.
Upholding the safety and integrity of Olympic-style boxing
The Officials Commission shall be made up of the board-appointed Regional Officials and one selection of an World Boxing-level Official with the following duties and responsibilities:
- To enforce the rules of the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association and the policies of Boxing Ontario.
- To uphold and to improve the standard of provincial officiating.
- To plan and organize regional officials courses and clinics, cooperatively create the annual training plan of official clinics in Ontario and the officials mentoring program.
- To put forward names to be trained as Officials in Charge at regional club competitions, Learning Facilitators for officials courses, and/or to assist with mentoring.
- To communicate with his/her respective Regional Officials and inform them of all relevant new developments concerning regulations, rules, and officiating in general.
- Help build the database of officials for record and prosperity.
- To write the framework for upgrading and other development mechanisms.
Upholding integrity, strengthening foundations
Reporting to the Board of Directors, and supported directly by one member of the Board of Directors, the new Governance Committee is tasked with:
- Monitoring and evaluating the organization’s functioning based on the current By-Law No. 1:
- Reviewing and creating recommended edits or additions to By-Law No.1 prior to the AGM to ensure compliance with all the applicable legislation and efficient functioning of the association.
- Engaging the Executive Director to ensure Policies and Procedures meet the requirements of By-Law No. 1 as appropriate.
- Reviewing and reporting to the Board of Directors on Boxing Canada’s Bylaw(s) or governing policies as they relate to Boxing Ontario.
- Assisting in “investigations” of potential By-Law violations by members.
Identifying leaders, securing a strong future
The Nominations Committee is a Standing Committee of the Board of Boxing Ontario. It is responsible for ensuring that the Boxing Ontario Board of Directors is composed of qualified and skilled persons capable of, and committed to, providing effective governance leadership, and executing Boxing Ontario’s Strategic Plan.
The Nominations Committee will be responsible to solicit and receive nomination for the election of the Directors:
- Seek, identify, and recruit qualified individuals to stand for election as Directors of Boxing Ontario.
- Ensure that candidates for election meet the eligibility requirements as indicated in our bylaws to serve as a Director.
- Communicate directly with each candidate to discuss the roles, responsibilities and expectations of a Director.
- Promote diversity and gender equity and regional balance of the board
- Identify potential future candidates
- Carry out these duties in a manner that encourages a long-term view of Boxing Ontario’s leadership needs, as well as Board succession planning.
