Remembering Tyrone Magbitang

Boxing Ontario is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former intern and athlete, Tyrone Magbitang.

Tyrone was a talented multisport athlete, a decorated kickboxer and marathoner. In 2025, he stepped into the boxing ring for his first bout with Boxing Ontario at Gloves Up Toronto, a charity boxing match for first responders. Tyrone not only won his bout and earned Best Male Fighter of the Night, but also raised funds for cancer research as a Fight to End Cancer Ambassador, representing the Toronto-based charity and training out of Kingsway Boxing Club.

Beyond the ring, Tyrone founded the Rookie Division Run Club, a passionate group of runners composed of first responders and community leaders, which actively raised funds in the fight to end cancer while challenging themselves physically.

Tyrone’s unwavering commitment and love of helping others and his dedication to service led him to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer with the Durham Regional Police Service. He joined as a special constable in May 2023, and the following month was selected as a police constable recruit. Tragically, Tyrone was involved in a car accident while en route to the Ontario Police College on July 7, 2026. Yesterday, on July 8, he was honoured with a police procession in recognition of his service and legacy.

At Boxing Ontario, we will remember Tyrone as an extraordinary human being, kind, compassionate, driven, and professional, who strived to make an impact in every project he was involved with, and whose efforts and spirit touched everyone around him. His legacy of service, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire us all.
